The information on this page is intended for students who have been admitted into the Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering Co-op program.
Reserved Seating and Program Sequence
It is very important to remain on-sequence and to register in the MCTR courses in the terms outlined in your Program Planner or Academic Requirements Report in Bear Tracks. You will notice that only the second year MCTR courses are offered in 2025/2026 and these courses are only offered in either Fall OR Winter terms. As the program rolls out over the next four years, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th year new courses will be offered.
When registration opens, you will have access to register in MCTR courses; these seats are reserved for students who are in this program and on sequence. IMPORTANT: Students who do not register according to their program sequence may extend their time to complete their degree. Students who register off-sequence must still abide by their .
If you are following your sequence and cannot register in a core course because it is full, contact enggadvising@ualberta.ca. Please ensure you include your student ID in your message.
Checking the Reserve Capacity
If you are registering on sequence (i.e. following the Calendar for your year) with the proper course requisites you may receive the following error message:
"You are unable to enrol in this class at this time. Available seats are reserved and you do not meet the reserve capacity requirements."
This means all of the seating for your program has been used by other students. When this error occurs, register in another available section of the course. Keep in mind that students will be updating their timetables until Fall term, so keep the section you want on your Watch List and you may get a chance to enroll in it later.
To find the reserve capacity for your program and plan, check the Reserve Capacity in the Class Remarks in My Schedule Builder or check the Reserve Capacity in Bear Tracks under the ‘Class Availability’ tab.

Program Specific Notes
- There is only one section of each of the following courses in Fall term: MCTR 202 and MCTR 240. In Winter Term, there is only one section of MCTR 210, MCTR 260, MCTR 265, and MCTR 294. We recommend that you register in these courses first and then register in the other required courses as they will have more course offerings.
- Register in your second year courses before August 6: you will have priority registration until that date. MEC E 250 and CIV E 270 will then be opened to other students for registration. Please read the Class Remarks in My Schedule Builder or the Class Notes in Bear Tracks if you receive a 'Requisites Not Met' error message. The reserved seating capacity for your program will be indicated in the Class Notes/Remarks.
- Please register in MATH 201 in Fall term before August 25: you will have priority registration until that date.
- Stay on-sequence according to the Calendar. Many MCTR courses are only offered in one term. If you fail or withdraw from a course, it may delay your program completion by up to a full year.
