What Is CRINA?

Created in 2014, the Cancer Research Institute of Northern Alberta (CRINA) unites scientists and clinicians from diverse backgrounds to share expertise and explore cancer’s most pressing research questions. With more than 170 investigators across eight different 51ÁÔÆæ faculties, CRINA provides fertile ground where those with different research perspectives and experience can find innovative solutions together.

Here, oncologists, clinicians, chemists, statisticians, pharmacologists, specialists in survivorship and others, collaborate to identify challenges facing patients and discover new ways to prevent, detect, and treat cancer.

Through donations to the institute, CRINA is also able to fund promising cancer research that will improve patient experiences and future outcomes. Additional studentship competitions are held to support and train future scientists, and ensure that the most impactful research is funded and accelerated to benefit all those facing cancer.

Being part of CRINA makes me feel connected to the greater cancer research community. It allows me to keep up to date on local cancer-related events, including seminars, grant funding opportunities and recent research publications. I am able to provide input to the overarching cancer research vision of the 51ÁÔÆæ through CRINA. I am also so thankful that a focus of CRINA is the support of trainees.
