Convocation ‘25: Anjola Fadayomi, BMgt
Shirley Wilfong-Pritchard - 3 June 2025
Anjola discovered economics in high school and hasn’t looked back, now graduating with a bachelor of management in the business economics stream. He has enjoyed the close community at Augustana Campus and has been actively involved in leadership, mentorship and social activities.
Anjola’s faith has been an important part of his journey, and he looks forward to celebrating convocation with family and friends.
Congratulations, Anjola!
What led you to choose your current area of study, and why the U of A Augustana for your studies?
In secondary school (high school), I mainly took science courses (physics, chemistry and the likes) but I had economics as an elective and I loved it! That changed my plan of studying computer science at a university. Although I did not mind science courses, my heart was not in them. So, I chose to study business economics.
When applying for my degree, I was not aware that the U of A had campuses an hour apart. So, I didn’t [mean to] choose Augustana at first. But when I had a choice to transfer to North Campus, I chose not to because I really enjoyed the close-knit community and convenience of the campus.
What is one of your favourite memories from your time at Augustana?
My favourite memory is a stranger knocking on my door in my first semester here, and asking me if I wanted to join the (previously Afri-Youth).
It is my favourite because this stranger is still one of my closest friends today. And, meeting this person opened so many doors of opportunity that have defined my whole undergrad experience.
Tell us about your favourite professor/lecturer and/or class.
One of my favourite classes was AUECO 480 (Ethics in Economics and Business). The class was discussion-based, and we focused on learning about different ethical frameworks and how they can be applied to real-world managerial situations. I liked the change of pace of the class and how easy it was to apply some of these frameworks in a mundane scenario.
Did you take on any leadership roles while you were a student, either on campus or in the Camrose community?
I took on a few leadership roles in the campus community. I worked with Residence Services for most of my undergraduate degree. I started as a resident assistant in 2021/2022, and then I became a hall coordinator in 2022 and held that position till the end of my degree. In between this experience, I was a peer mentor for AUSTA 153 in Winter 2023.
How did you get where you are today?
I got to where I am today by leaning on God, my friends and my family. Over the course of my degree, I got to understand God as the person who would like to be in my life and someone who is consistently dependable in every situation. With this understanding, I went to God for every little thing. Also, I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by very amazing friends and a supportive family who have walked with me through this journey. They provided counsel, companionship and assistance when I needed it most.
What advice do you have for current and future students?
Get involved in the campus community. Whether through clubs, student leadership or residence life. You get to meet really amazing people and make lifelong friends. Also, it provides a lot of opportunities to benefit from.
How do you plan on celebrating convocation?
I plan on celebrating with the friends I’ve made over the years and with my family. Just going out and doing something fun with them.
What's next after graduation?
I’d like to find a job that I enjoy to kick off my professional career.
